About Teresa Matazzoni, PsyD

Licensed as a clinical psychologist in California since 2010, I have dedicated my career to helping adults heal from trauma, anxiety, and emotional distress. I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and I integrate these approaches with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to provide personalized, evidence-based care. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves, navigate life's challenges with greater confidence, and create meaningful, lasting change.

My Approach to Therapy

People often come to therapy because something in their lives is no longer working the way it once did. Patterns repeat, stress builds, or past experiences begin to surface in ways that are difficult to ignore.

My work is focused on helping you move toward the kind of change you’re hoping to make.

In our sessions, I aim to create a space that is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in genuine care. I am active and engaged during our sessions. We’ll explore patterns, ask meaningful questions, and work together to better understand what may be shaping your current experiences.

I draw from several evidence-based therapeutic approaches depending on what best supports your therapy goals, including:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

I am an IFS therapist (Level 1) and was trained through the IFS Institute. I have also completed formal training in EMDR and am a member of EMDRIA (EMDR International Association). These approaches will allow us to explore both present-day patterns and the deeper experiences that may be influencing them.

I also believe that humor, creativity, and intuition have an important place in the therapy room. Even in serious work, moments of lightness can be part of healing.

Professional Experience

I received my doctorate in psychology from The Wright Institute and became licensed in California in 2010 (PSY 23876).

Before opening Arbor Psychological Services, I spent over a decade providing treatment at outpatient clinics through an integrated managed health care system. Prior to that, I worked as a clinician at the City & County of San Francisco.

During those experiences, I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and major life transitions. These experiences deepened my understanding of how complex and layered people’s narratives are and how meaningful it can be to have a space dedicated to working through those challenges.

Today, in private practice, I continue to focus on helping individuals move through difficult periods in their lives with greater clarity, steadiness, and self-understanding.

Therapy is not about “fixing” who you are. More often, it’s about understanding yourself more deeply and loosening the patterns that have been keeping you stuck.

If you’re considering therapy, I invite you to schedule a brief consultation so we can talk about what’s bringing you here and whether working together feels like the right fit.
